Twelve & Helping Hoops Team Up to Bring Communities Together

By 18/02/2016News

Helping Hoops has been proud to collaborate recently with the Twelve Batmitzcah Program to help bridge the gap between our children and those from the greater community.

The Twelve Batmitzvah Program is a unique hands on volunteering program for batmitzvah girls and their parents to complete a year of kindness. For the Jewish community, reaching the age of bar or bat Mitzvah (13 and 12 respectively) signifies becoming a full-fledged member of the Jewish community with the responsibilities that come with it. Philanthropy plays a big part of this significant event, and Twelve has reached out to Helping Hoops to include the charity as part of their programs.

The first Helping Hoops-Twelve session took place on February 14 on the Richmond public housing estate, which is home to Helping Hoops Richmond every Thursday. Coach Steve welcomed 18 girls and their parents, and ran them through drills and activities that would they would normally experience at a regular Helping Hoops program. The session also provided an opportunity to meet some of the Helping Hoops kids and form new friendships that would not have otherwise occurred.

Twelve organiser, Moran Dvir, said of the session “It was a fun, energising and interactive afternoon with Helping Hoops. We ran, we dribbled, we laughed, ate and had fun – and experienced the great work this organisation does, bringing kids together to learn skills, build self esteem, and have a healthy and active lifestyle.”

Twelve and Helping Hoops will run several more sessions together throughout the year at various locations, and we look forward to a strong relationship that will help foster understanding while having a lot of fun.
