Victorian Women’s Benevolent Trust Steps up to Assist Girls

By 25/10/2016News

We are pleased to announce that the Victorian Women’s Benevolent Trust (VWBT) together with the Grosvenor Foundation have continued their support of Helping Hoops for 2016-17, and have again funded the role of the Helping Hoops Women’s Development Coach for the second straight year.

The role, filled by our own Coach Renee, is vital to ensuring girls have equal opportunities to participate in Helping Hoops programs. In the communities Helping Hoops works in, young women do not always enjoy the same chance to participate as boys, and it has long been a goal of our organisation to bridge this gap. Achieving this goal has been made more achievable through the recent funding from the VMBT and Grosvenor Foundation.

VWBT General Manager, Carolyn Munckton says “The Victorian Women’s Benevolent Trust, together with the Grosvenor Foundation, is very pleased to support Helping Hoops again this year. We have really seen the value of having a Female Engagement Officer who works to establish an inclusive and supportive recreational environment for young women from refugee backgrounds. It is great to see these young women get involved with sport and build new friendships; helping them to settle into life in Australia.”

The Victorian Women’s Trust is inspired by the vision of a just and humane society in which women enjoy full participation as citizens. They believe that by creating a better world for women, we create a better world for men, children, families and communities. Established in 1985 in recognition of women’s role in shaping Victoria, the Trust has positioned itself as one of Australia’s foremost women’s organisations.

Fully independent, the Trust exists to improve conditions for women in practical and lasting ways, through:

  • A funding program by the Victorian Women’s Benevolent Trust, as the grant making arm, to invest in women and effect social change.
  • Strategic alliances to undertake major projects
  • Advocacy for women on key issues
  • Showcasing women’s talents and fostering networks for exchange of skills, ideas and information.

Helping Hoops has set a goal of a 25-percent minimum female participation level across all programs. Currently, participation stands at 29-percent which is a figure we are extremely proud of, but hope to increase over the next 12 months. We look forward to bringing news on our progress in this area.

We thank the VWBT for their support. For more information on the Victorian Women’s Benevolent Trust, please visit their website here.
