Helping Hoops Values. It’s All About Respect in Term Two

By 18/04/2017News

Helping Hoops has never been solely about basketball. Values drive everything we do as a charity. From our culture as an organisation to the lessons we teach children participating in our programs, values are what hold us together and give us something to measure our actions against.

Earlier this year, the Helping Hoops Head Coaches met and agreed to highlight a key value each term that we hold as important at Helping Hoops. Term two this year is all about respect.

So what does respect mean to us? Respect is an attitude of honouring ourselves and others as people of value. We treat others with dignity. Everyone has the right to expect respect. We show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy. When we respect others as we would like to be respected, we raise the level of trust and peace in our relationships. We can do this when we stop and think how our actions might affect other people.

Thanks to The Virtues Project™ whose work inspired these definitions.

Coaches will highlight examples of respect they see at programs and commend the actions of participants who exemplify this core value in an organic way. We have values lined up for term three and four too and look forward to sharing these with you soon.
