Today, Helping Hoops begins a new chapter. We are excited to announce two new coaches that will take us into 2016 and beyond. Presenting Kevin Johnson and Eric Minerve.
Kevin, or “Butter” as he is affectionately know, joins Helping Hoops after extensive playing experience in over 10 countries throughout the world. Kevin has been involved in the NBA Cares program overseas, and has a strong community focus that makes him a strong and positive role model for Helping Hoops kids.
Coming from the Bronx, New York, Kevin empathises and relates to the situations facing our kids, and his passion and energy are testament to his dedication to positively impacting the lives of kids in his programs. Kevin takes over at Helping Hoops Broadmeadows, Croxton, Richmond and North Melbourne, and will also be heavily involved in our community visits and events.
Eric joins Helping Hoops after years of experience developing young talent at the junior and representative level. His ability to teach the technical aspects of the game in a way that is easy to understand for young aspiring athletes makes him a perfect fit for our Helping Hoops Sunshine program, which he will head up every Monday for kids from a migrant and refugee background in Melbourne’s west.
Eric has worked as Head Coach at the Waverley Falcons, and has developed excellent relationships with dozens of players from a South Sudanese Australian background through this program. He has also worked at Xavier and Trinity Colleges, and this work has helped him develop a strong understanding of the needs of kids off the court as well as on.
Welcome to the Helping Hoops family, Kevin and Eric.
