Profiling our Fundraisers ahead of next weekend’s 24 Hour Charity Shootout… meet Jaxon and his Dad Adam. This is their fourth Charity Shootout and aim to raise $1,200 as a family. Right now, they’re already up to $1,000.
Jaxon and his brother Kilmer have attended Helping Hoops Dandenong for a number of years, and Adam decided to throw his support being the Charity Shootout in 2014.
Adam says,
“Us being a basketball family and me playing basketball all my life with a single parent, we don’t even know how she did it… taking us to training, affording fees, etc. So we really know what it means to have these sessions with kids that can’t afford it.
“Not only that, it keeps them off the street and teaches them life lessons, which is why we loved here with Omar and Renee. The life lessons they teach the kids not only help their basketball but are those they can take into life outside of basketball.
“Omar and Renee want the best out of the children, not only in sport but also as people. We love how they stop the session to bring out a story about an experience they had in life to explain not only how it relates to basketball but what they can do in situations similar to that, and vice versa.”
As for the 24 Hour Charity Shootout, Adam likes the atmosphere and the fact that there’s the opportunity to meet everyone involved with the charity.
“At the Shootout, you have the people involved and you get to see all of Helping Hoops in one court. You can see what it’s about, meet the people and see how passionate they are about the programs. It’s just good to see all the faces that we don’t get to see.”
Jaxon, 13, is looking forward to putting up a good score this year and seeing how he fares compared with other Fundraisers,
“I’m looking forward to the competition being even better this year.”
