Helping Hoops is delighted to welcome Nike as major partner. Nike will support Helping Hoops Power, a new weekly basketball program for girls in inner-city Melbourne Public Housing. Led by Coach Renee Clarke, who has more than six years of experience with Helping Hoops, the program will create an inclusive environment and provide the apparel and equipment required to enable a diverse group of girls to play sport.
Our first ever photography exhibition – Helping Hoops Untold – saw 80 images on display at BSIDE Gallery in Fitzroy from May 23-26. Untold was the culmination of a 12 month project in which children from across our programs were handed the camera and given the opportunity to tell their stories through photographs.
Helping Hoops has opened up our latest location with the launch of the Kensington program. Kensington is our fifth public housing program located in inner-Melbourne, and has quickly established a strong presence in the community with attendance and interest strong from the outset.

Houston Rockets sixth man Eric Gordon visited Melbourne to run two basketball camps in August 2018. The Melbourne edition of Gordon's camp welcomed 30 children from Helping Hoops programs, who were given the opportunity to attend by Sports Royalty – a company with the aim of bringing NBA talent to Australia.
Children and young people attending Helping Hoops programs may come from migrant or refugee backgrounds, living in inner-city public housing estates, have an intellectual disability or special needs, or may be socioeconomically disadvantaged in some way.
Helping Hoops aims to build self-esteem, provide a sense of belonging and community, aid social cohesion, instill discipline, develop goal setting and leadership skills, and promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
