On June 27 and 28, fundraisers will participate in the annual 24 Hour Charity Shootout to raise money for Helping Hoops.
In addition to a dedicated event venue at Albert Park College in inner-Melbourne, participants can now register to shoot free throws in their local gym, park, backyard”¦ anywhere there is a hoop!
REGISTERDuring the event, participants each dedicate 15-minutes to make as many free throws as they can, and set themselves a fundraising goal for their achievement with all proceeds going to Helping Hoops.
Helping Hoops Executive Director, Adam McKay, hopes that this extended fundraising effort will have a huge impact on the Melbourne-based programs that currently run weekly in Fitzroy, Sunshine, Broadmeadows, North Melbourne, Richmond, Croxton and Dandenong.
“This year, we are not only excited to have our supporters join us at Albert Park College, but also to have those people all around the world who are putting up their hand to shoot free throws and help Helping Hoops change the lives of kids in need.
Every week, we make and keep promises to children suffering from disadvantage, and I am proud that we have been able to do this all for free for the past five years. Funds raised from the 24 Hour Charity Shootout help us keep these promises now and into the future, and allow us to expand our reach to help even more children who need us in their neighbourhood.”
In 2014, the 24 Hour Charity Shootout was the biggest fundraising event for Helping Hoops. Shootout participants combined to raise over $83,000 for Helping Hoops. A special mention goes to Ben Shewry of Attica Restaurant for putting his support behind the charity and individually raising over $50,000. Ben’s support has also extended to Helping Hoops programs, where he has volunteered his time and built up amazing relationships with kids.
This year’s Shootout will also include guest appearances from Chris Anstey, David Barlow from Melbourne United, Dandenong Rangers’ championship player, and Helping Hoops Ambassador, Tegan Cunningham, and more to be announced soon. Other attractions across the weekend will include DJs, face painting, arcade games, artwork displays, food, and Helping Hoops prizes and merchandise on offer.
The 24 Hour Charity Shootout is all about giving the wider community an opportunity to get involved in Helping Hoops, and to be a hero from their own backyard, local court, or at Albert Park College.
