Helping Hoops Announces the Appointment of New Executive Director

By 25/01/2020News

Helping Hoops is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Executive Director for the independent charity. President, David Koopmans, today announced the appointment of Clinton Meehan to take on the role commencing February 17 after the current Executive Director, Adam McKay finishes this month.

David said, “After a comprehensive recruitment process, the Helping Hoops committee is pleased to secure Clinton for the role. Clinton has been an integral part of our Future program over the past couple of years and is also a long-term participant in the Helping Hoops Charity Shootout. His passion for basketball is clear in his 30+ years of involvement in the sport as a player, coach and administrator. Away from the court Clinton’s most recent roles are in Fundraising and Management positions within the NFP sector. This experience will hold him in good stead as he grows Helping Hoops and were a key factor in our decision to appoint him to the role.”

Clinton spoke of the appointment, “I feel very humbled to be given the opportunity to lead the organisation into its next exciting phase. I gratefully acknowledge Adam’s contribution to Helping Hoops and its mission. I want to build on the foundations that have been laid by the staff, coaches, volunteers and our supporters. We sit in a truly unique position within the basketball landscape. I am looking forward to growing the positive impact we provide for the children and communities we serve well into the future. I cannot wait to get started!”

Clinton will take over from Helping Hoops Founder Adam McKay who has been at the helm since the charity’s inception in 2009. “In welcoming Clinton to the important role the committee also certainly wishes to acknowledge and thank Adam for his tireless contributions during his tenure and he will of course always be a part of our community and we’re grateful for what he has done for so many kids and the wonderful organisation he has created and nurtured over the past 10 years,” David said.

The appointment of Clinton is the next stage in the Helping Hoops journey, one that has seen significant growth particularly in the past 12 months where we welcomed new partners and supporters, added new programs and matured as an organisation. The committee are very excited by the future of Helping Hoops with Clinton at the helm coupled with the support of Operations Manager, Teuila Reid, our Coaches Renee, Omar, Tom and KB, and our incredible volunteers. The future of Helping Hoops is certainly in good hands as it moves into its next chapter.
