On Thursday, June 16, as a mini event for the 24 Hour Charity Shootout, we ran the first ever Holmesglen x Helping Hoops Charity Shootout. The event featured 10 students from the Holmesglen VCAL Foundation program who require support with their learning and/or social skills.
The students prepared for the day by setting up their own fundraising pages with the help of heir teacher, Deb, who initially approached Helping Hoops to take part in the Charity Shootout. Their fundraising efforts exceeded all expectations with over $2,700 raised for Helping Hoops.
The students then took to the court at Waverley Basketball Stadium to shoot as many free throws as they could in their individual 10-minutes time blocks. As well as having a lot of fun, the students rebounded and encouraged each other and showed the kind of support and kindness that has obviously helped them in their fundraising efforts.
In total, the students, and Deb, made 545 free throws. It was an absolute pleasure helping the group run the day and meeting them all. We are extremely appreciative of their supports and look forward to working with Deb and Holmesglen again in the future.
