The 24 Hour Charity Shootout is almost here! Over 150 people and 1,000+ spectators will take part on June 25-26, as well as Melbourne United players and international and local guests to be announced soon.
April, 2016 will be remembered as a busy but rewarding month for Helping Hoops. We filled the school holidays with five action-packed tournaments for children all across Melbourne who participate in our programs.
Arek is 9 years old and has participated in the Helping Hoops Richmond program on Thursdays for over 5 years. She is known for her positivity, determination and willingness to help out her fellow friends.
On Sunday, April 3, Helping Hoops hosted our first ever Helping Hoops tournament for kids with special needs. The Croxton-Broadmeadows Tournament saw four teams made up of over 20 participants from our Croxton and Broadmeadows programs, which have run every week of the school term from October 2010.
We were able to give that "new T-shirt feeling" to hundreds of Helping Hoops kids thanks to the donation of blank T's by AS Colour. Looking good, everyone! [gallery link="file"...
Children and young people attending Helping Hoops programs may come from migrant or refugee backgrounds, living in inner-city public housing estates, have an intellectual disability or special needs, or may be socioeconomically disadvantaged in some way.
Helping Hoops aims to build self-esteem, provide a sense of belonging and community, aid social cohesion, instill discipline, develop goal setting and leadership skills, and promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
