With Melbourne United’s loss to the New Zealand Breakers on February 20, the Three-Point Community Sponsorship came to a close for 2015-16. The campaign has eclipsed previous years, with an enormous tally raised thanks to local Melbourne retailer Sportsmart’s $40 donations for every three-pointer made by United throughout the NBL season.
The Three-Point Community Sponsorship has raised a total of $12,440 for Helping Hoops, but has also been a huge success through the engagement it has created with fans of the NBL and Melbourne United.
Helping Hoops Executive Director, Adam McKay, says “Everyone loves seeing a three-pointer, and if you are a fan of basketball, chances are you also love seeing how the sport can help underprivileged children. The Three-Point Community Sponsorship has been a fantastic way to connect with the wider basketball audience, and we thank Sportsmart for their continued support of the charity.”
Helping Hoops runs over 320 sessions each year, and we are committed to keeping these free for children in need. The support of Sportsmart allows us to keep this promise and sustain our work going forward.
Thanks to Sportsmart, Melbourne United, and all the volunteers who have helped live-Tweet threes all throughout the season. We look forward to bringing the campaign back in 2016-17.
