Helping Hoops is proud to announce the launch of the Kicks for Kids campaign, which is a shoe drive to help collect second hand shoes for underprivileged children of the Philippines.
On September 25, we ran the first ever Helping Hoops North Melbourne Tournament for some very energetic and excited kids. The day started with a clinic and games with Coach Kevin, followed by a BBQ.
On September 16, 2015, members of the RMIT Basketball Club, and other students, teamed up with Helping Hoops to run the second RMIT Charity Shootout. The event, which built on the success of the inaugural Shootout in 2014, took over RMIT's Urban Square in the heart of Melbourne's CBD.
Today, Helping Hoops begins a new chapter. We are excited to announce two new coaches that will take us into 2016 and beyond. Presenting Kevin Johnson and Eric Minerve. Kevin, or "Butter" as he is affectionately know, joins Helping Hoops after extensive playing experience in over 10 countries throughout the world.
Children and young people attending Helping Hoops programs may come from migrant or refugee backgrounds, living in inner-city public housing estates, have an intellectual disability or special needs, or may be socioeconomically disadvantaged in some way.
Helping Hoops aims to build self-esteem, provide a sense of belonging and community, aid social cohesion, instill discipline, develop goal setting and leadership skills, and promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
